Castello "Gentile" is not a popular tobacco. It is not available on Italian market and I was able to get it from a friend. Just like the first Castello blend "Optimo" it is an Aromatic tobacco.
Nice appearance colour, with dark & bright leaves of Double-fermented Black Cavendish and dark/orange coloured Virginia from three continents. The cut is a medium ribbon with traces of large leaf.
The aroma when you open the tin is of a crisp sweet smell, maybe too strong. In fact it is enhanced with fruit flavour and Orange liqueur. I've seen in packaged only in tins: it is very nicely conserved and fairly moist.
I tried several bowls of "Gentile" in different pipes and obviously the sweetness is clear but well balanced with a certain note of nutty taste. It is on the whole easy to keep lit (two matches) and provide a cool smoke for the whole smoke.
The 1/3 bowl taste is smooth and subtle. It becomes stronger after ½ and the Cavendish taste promptly comes helping the sweetness taste.
The aroma in the room is persistent and sweet, very nice.
It is surely a good aromatic tobacco for sweetness lovers. Probably not very common and promptly available but must be tried! If you would like to try it I will be pleased to send you few shots: just write me at info@neatpipes.com your address.
